Values

Radical

  • We advocate for change to structures that marginalise and discriminate against certain groups and contribute to the erasure of cultures and histories.
  • We believe change must start at the foundation. Change occurs through open dialogues, meaningful partnerships, and welcoming new approaches and ways of thinking into our institutions.
  • We advocate as part of the decolonizing museums discourse, bringing together a range of creatives and audiences to share the stories and histories historically excluded in Western museum programming.

    Collaborative

    • The East In West Vinyl Archive is an evolving archive that is accessible and invites contributions and new interpretations.
    • We have an open approach to programming. We will support artists and local organisations in bringing their practices, values, and perspectives to the archive.

      Disruptive

      • We produce multi-sensory, immersive experiences in both ‘traditional’ and ‘non-traditional’ arts and heritage spaces.
      • We value the different ways in which people wish to tell their stories and experience cultural and heritage events.
      • We promote and support marginalised voices and histories, ensuring South Asian and diasporic stories are not excluded from ‘heritage’ discourses in the UK and beyond.

        Accessible

        • We believe archives should be available to the public and have developed a FREE and easy-to-apply-for membership scheme.
        • Through our programming, we aim to bring the archive to a range of spaces, making it accessible to new audiences.
        • We always strive to provide a diverse programme with activities and events for audiences with a range of interests and needs.
